Chennai:
Not less than eleven individuals have died and 36 injured in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district, round 500 kilometres from Chennai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the blast.
“Fireplace at a firecracker manufacturing facility in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu is saddening. On this hour of grief, my ideas are with the bereaved households. I hope these injured get better quickly. Authorities are engaged on the bottom to help these affected,” he tweeted.

An officer from the native fireplace division advised NDTV: “Friction throughout mixing of chemical substances seems to have precipitated the explosion”.
Ten fire-fighting items from varied places had been rushed to the spot to douse the hearth, information company PTI reported.
Chief Minister E Palaniswami has introduced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh for the households of those that died within the blast and Rs 1 lakh for the severely injured.
The Centre has introduced Rs 2 lakh for the households of the victims and Rs 50,000 for these injured.
“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh every has been permitted from PMNRF for the following of kin of those that have misplaced their lives as a result of a fireplace in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. Rs. 50,000 can be given to these critically injured,” a tweet from the PMO account learn.
