Amazon expands Scout program to two new states | Home Accents Today

Amazon’s Scout autonomous delivery service is now being offered in Atlanta.

SEATTLE – Amazon is now offering its fully-electric delivery system called Scout in two new states by offering the service to customers in Atlanta and in Franklin, Tenn.

The company said the Scout program is designed to safely get packages to customers using autonomous delivery devices.

“Amazon has been providing an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic and working hard to get customers the products they need so they can continue to stay safe,” said Sean Scott, vice president of Amazon Scout in a recent blog post. “Amazon Scout has continued to operate during the pandemic and helped us meet increased customer demand by supplementing our transportation network.”

The company is also continuing with Scout field tests in Washington and California through partnerships with the communities of Snohomish County, Wash., and the Irvine-area of California.

Amazon Scout delivery devices are the size of a small cooler and move at a walking pace, according to Scott. Each delivery device can navigate around pets, pedestrians and other objects in its path.

“We are starting with a small number of Amazon Scout devices in each city, delivering Monday through Friday, during daylight hours,” Scott added. “Customers in both areas will order just as they normally would, and their Amazon packages will be delivered either by one of our trusted carrier partners or by Amazon Scout.”

The same delivery options are available, and the devices will autonomously follow their delivery route, initially accompanied by an Amazon Scout Ambassador.

The company said that expanding its field test to Atlanta and Franklin is one of many steps forward on its path to net zero carbon by 2040.
