Textual content description offered by the architects. This undertaking entails the conversion of a conventional townhouse close to the Kyoto Imperial Palace right into a whole-house rental lodging. The constructing is a small wood home with a large façade and a courtyard known as “Tsuboniwa” on the rear. Passing by way of the noren curtain, the trail meanders deeper and deeper towards the courtyard, revealing new sequences at each flip. The design seeks to precise the distinctive linear depth, subdued ambiance, and the sense of “refinement” that originates from the idea of “depth” inherent in Kyoto machiya, inside the restricted spatial depth of the constructing.
