The death of Zakir Hussain left an irreplaceble void on this planet of classical music. Celebrities throughout generations are mourning the maestro’s dying. Anup Jalota, who shared a detailed rapport with him, remembered the legend in an interview with ETimes. “Ustaad Zakir Hussain, hum unko pyaar se Zakir Bhai kehke bulaate the. Unka jaana ek bohot bada nuksaan hai, kyunki sach toh yeh hai ki aisa tabla baajna kabhi nahi hua aur na kabhi hoga (Ustaad Zakir Hussain, we used to affectionately name him Zakir Bhai. His passing is a big loss as a result of the reality is, such a tabla participant has by no means existed, nor will there ever be one),” Anup Jalota advised the publication.
Sharing fond memories from a live performance he did with Zakir Hussain, Anup Jalota mentioned, “I toured America and Canada with him, and we carried out collectively. He would play the tabla with me, and I’d sing. We did 10-12 packages in America and Canada. Each second with him is a cherished reminiscence. Each single second is unforgettable. He was so humble. Should you contact his toes, he’ll contact yours. He was that form of individual. It’s a nice loss for our Indian music, an enormous loss.”

Zakir Hussain, who’s thought to be the best tabla participant of his era, is survived by his spouse, Antonia Minnecola and his daughters, Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi. Born on March 9, 1951, he’s the son of legendary tabla grasp Ustad Alla Rakha. The percussionist, one in all India’s most celebrated classical musicians, acquired the Padma Shri in 1988, the Padma Bhushan in 2002, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2023.
His groundbreaking work with Western musicians similar to Yo-Yo Ma, Charles Lloyd, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Mickey Hart and George Harrison introduced Indian classical music to a world viewers, cementing his standing as a worldwide cultural ambassador.
