Carrying her lifeless calf, an elephant alongside together with her herd walked kilometres in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Friday, officers mentioned. The herd of 30-35 elephants travelled over 7 kilometres.

“The elephants travelled not less than 7 km from one backyard to a different, inflicting panic among the many folks,” an officer mentioned.

The calf died yesterday morning in Dooars area’s Chunabhati tea backyard in Banarhat block. The mom of the calf picked it up with the trunk and meandered from one tea backyard to a different alongside together with her herd, forest officers mentioned.

From Chunabhati, the elephants went to Ambari tea backyard, Diana tea backyard and Newdooars tea backyard earlier than laying the calf’s physique close to a bush at Redbank tea backyard.
