IIT Delhi-incubated deeptech startup Green Aero secures 1.6 million from pi Ventures – The Economic Times

Green Aero, a deeptech startup incubated at IIT Delhi, has raised $1.6 million in a seed funding spherical led by pi Ventures, with participation from Antler, to develop next-generation propulsion techniques for defence and hydrogen-powered civil aviation. With India largely reliant on imported turbine engines, the startup sees a possibility to construct indigenous propulsion techniques.

The corporate lately introduced that it had test-fired India’s first hydrogen-based aero engine. The funding will assist Inexperienced Aero’s analysis and improvement (R&D) efforts and the institution of an in-house testing facility. The capital can even be used for workforce enlargement because it prepares for industrial pilots in defence and aviation.

Talking to ET, founder Prithwish Kundu, a former analysis scientist on the US Division of Vitality’s Argonne Nationwide Laboratory who has collaborated with NASA and the US Military, stated the startup goals to construct core propulsion know-how for aerospace, naval, and hydrogen-powered civil plane, which will probably be a primary for India.

“We’re excited to be on the forefront of growing superior aero engine applied sciences in India for the world. That is the necessity of the hour for contemporary defence and aviation necessities,” Kundu stated. The startup plans to commercialise its first small-category engine inside the subsequent 12 months whereas laying the groundwork for a bigger engine platform.

“India has traditionally lagged in aerospace innovation, however that’s altering quick. Inexperienced Aero is constructing world-class aero engines from the bottom up in India, with a laser-sharp deal with effectivity and efficiency,” stated Shubham Sandeep, managing director at pi Ventures.
