Export of cell phones from India elevated by 127 instances to succeed in ₹2 lakh crore within the final 10 monetary years, Parliament was knowledgeable on Wednesday (July 23, 2025).
In keeping with information shared by Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada in a written reply to Lok Sabha, the export of cell phones “elevated 127 instances” from India from ₹1,500 crore in 2014-15 to ₹2 lakh crore in 2024-25.
“The PLI Scheme for LSEM has already attracted a cumulative funding of ₹12,390 crore, led to a cumulative manufacturing of ₹8,44,752 crore with exports of₹4,65,809 crore and generated further employment of 1,30,330 (direct jobs) until June 2025,” the minister mentioned.
The manufacturing linked incentive (PLI) scheme for Massive Scale Electronics Manufacturing was primarily meant for cell phone manufacturing.
The minister mentioned that 75% of the whole cell phone demand within the nation was met by means of imports in 2014-15, which has now dropped to 0.02% in 2024-25.
“PLI Scheme for Massive Scale Electronics Manufacturing has considerably impacted the cellular manufacturing sector in India significantly in remodeling India from a web importer to a web exporter of cell phones. Bharat is now the second largest cellular manufacturing nation on the earth,” the Minister mentioned.
Prasada mentioned the PLI Scheme 2.0 for IT {hardware} has attracted a cumulative funding of ₹717.13 crore, led to a cumulative manufacturing of ₹12,195.84 crore and generated further employment of 5,056 (direct jobs) until June.
“Whole FDI within the area of electronics manufacturing within the final 5 years (i.e. since FY 2020-21) is $4,071 million, cumulative FDI of $2,802 million has been contributed by MeitY PLI beneficiaries,” the minister mentioned.
