The centre has raised the worth it would pay to purchase new-season wheat from farmers by 2 per cent – the bottom in a decade – to Rs 2,015 per 100 kg. The transfer to lift MSP comes amid protests by farmers towards three new farm legal guidelines that they are saying would harm them by giving management to personal companies over agricultural produce. Regardless of the centre agreeing to return midway by amending the legal guidelines, the farmers need nothing wanting withdrawing the legal guidelines. The centre denies the farmers’ allegations and maintains that the legal guidelines are in truth helpful for them by slicing out middlemen.
The choice to lift the MSP was taken at a gathering of the Cupboard Committee on Financial Affairs or CCEA chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a press release, the CCEA stated it has accredited elevating MSP for six rabi crops for the 2021-22 crop 12 months (July-June) and 2022-23 advertising and marketing seasons. Rabi crops are sown between October instantly after the harvest of kharif crops. Wheat and mustard are the 2 main rabi crops.
The CCEA stated the MSP has been raised to encourage crop diversification because the return to farmers over their price of manufacturing are estimated to be highest in case of wheat, rapeseed and mustard, adopted by lentil, gram, barley and safflower.
