AICTE, CSIR to host hackathon for Covid-19 drug discovery


MUMBAI: A hackathon for potential drug discovery to beat the Covid-19 virus outbreak will likely be launched, Anil Sahasrabudhe, chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) introduced at a Bennett University webinar on Monday.

The hackathon is being organised by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and AICTE.

The concepts submitted will likely be labored upon by CSIR labs, startups and different non-public organisations.

The theme of the worldwide webinar, organised by the Department of Computer Science Engineering of BU on Monday, was ‘AI Solutions for Covid’.

Sahasrabudhe stated professionals and academicians from numerous fields resembling pc science and molecular biology might participate in it to help to find options. “It is truly an interdisciplinary effort…we invite people from all streams to participate in it,” he stated.

On measures taken to facilitate digital studying forward of and in the course of the pandemic, he stated AICTE had enabled college students to switch 20% in fact credit from the federal government’s on-line studying platform, Swayam, to their tutorial information.

He stated AICTE was pondering of how to extend the contribution from the digital studying platform to 30% or 40%. “Wherever there is experiential learning it should be in face-to-face mode but others can be by choice of the candidate; the possibility of ‘any time learning’ has emerged,” he stated.

Ahead of the nationwide lockdown, AICTE had engaged 15 firms to offer on-line studying merchandise for its National Education Alliance for Technology (NEAT) platform initiative.

Although college students throughout India have been initially paying for personalised studying programs, following the nationwide lockdown, most of the studying packages have now been made free.

“Today, students are enjoying learning from home. Several products in AI, IoT, Machine and Deep Learning, Quantum Computing etc are available…these are available for another month or so, free of cost,” he stated.
