The tenure of controversial Narcotics Management Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede with the federal anti-narcotics company has ended and his companies have been put on the disposal of his guardian organisation DRI, officers stated on Monday.
The cost of the NCB Mumbai zonal unit will probably be dealt with in an extra capability by its Indore zonal director Brijendra Chowdhary.
Mr Wankhede, an Indian Income Service (IRS) officer of the 2008 batch, was despatched to the Narcotics Management Bureau (NCB) Mumbai zone in August, 2020 “on mortgage” from the Directorate of Income Intelligence (DRI) within the wake of the medicine probe being carried out by the company into the demise of 34-year-old actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
He had been serving as the top or the zonal director of the NCB Mumbai unit since August 31, 2020 and was given some extensions.
Mr Wankhede’s prolonged tenure with the NCB ended on December 31, 2021 and as there was no order for his extension, he has been despatched again to his guardian organisation DRI, that features as an investigation company beneath the Central Board of Oblique Taxes and Customs (CBIC), they stated.
Mr Wankhede has been within the limelight following the high-profile October, 2021 raids by the NCB on a Mumbai cruise after which the company arrested Aryan Khan, the son of actor Shah Rukh Khan, and a number of other others and claimed to have siezed some narcotics too.
Quickly after this motion, Maharashtra minister and NCP chief levelled a number of fees of alleged misconduct and corruption in opposition to the officer. Mr Wankhede has denied the allegations.
The NCB, beneath Mr Wankhede, had earlier arrested Mr Malik’s son-in-law Sameer Khan in a narcotics case and the company has just lately moved the Bombay Excessive Courtroom to cancel the bail given to the latter on this case.
