A Manipur group has suspended its ban on the motion of the Kuki folks throughout the territories of 4 Naga communities.
The Committee on Safety of Indigenous Folks’s Ancestral Land (COPIPAL) mentioned that the ban, which was to have taken impact on June 2, was withdrawn “for a while” within the “curiosity of sustaining peace” within the State.
The COPIPAL, shaped throughout a folks’s consultative assembly convened by the Joint Tribes Council on April 14 within the Kangpokpi district’s Konsaram village, had introduced a “full restriction on the motion of Kukis” throughout the territories of the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei, and Zeme Naga communities.
Konsaram is among the oldest Naga villages in Manipur. In response to the committee, the Kukis attacked the Liangmai Naga inhabitants of the village in an “unprovoked and orchestrated act of aggression” on April 5, severely “undermining the peace and dignity” of the indigenous Naga folks.
The COPIPAL described the assault as a risk to the security, rights, and cultural identification of the Naga communities.
Reacting to the COPIPAL choice on Might 28, the Regional Naga Council of Manipur directed the Naga leaders and frontal organisations involved to uphold the declaration of ban inside their respective jurisdictions.
Nonetheless, the apex United Naga Council and the Joint Tribes Council later sought rest of the ban to facilitate folks within the conflict-scarred State.
The Nagas have been largely impartial within the battle between the tribal Kuki-Zo and the non-tribal Meitei communities that broke out on Might 3, 2025, claiming greater than 250 human lives and displacing some 60,000 others.
Manipur has been beneath the President’s Rule since February 13, days after N. Biren Singh resigned because the Chief Minister.
