The West Bengal authorities on Saturday effected a police reshuffle in Howrah district, which witnessed violent protests over controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad by suspended BJP spokespersons.
The state administration named Praveen Tripathi, Further CP of Kolkata Police, the brand new Commissioner of Police of Howrah Metropolis, an order said.
Swathi Bhangalia, DCP (South West) of Kolkata Police, was made the brand new SP of Howrah (Rural), it added.
Howrah Metropolis Commissioner of Police C Sudhakar was made the Joint CP of Kolkata Police whereas Howrah (Rural) SP Saumya Roy was made DCP (South West) of Kolkata Police.
The choice was taken throughout an emergency assembly held within the state secretariat over the present scenario in Howrah district.
“These appointments have been initiated within the curiosity of public service,” the order said.
Protests erupted in a number of components of Howrah district on Friday over controversial remarks by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled chief Naveen Jindal on Prophet Mohammad.
Agitators resorted to stone-pelting, setting police autos on fireplace and damaging public property throughout violent protests and clashes with the regulation enforcers within the district.
Web companies have been suspended throughout the district until June 13 to stop the unfold of rumours and prohibitory orders underneath Part 144 of CrPC imposed in a number of areas equivalent to Uluberia, Domjur and Panchla until June 15.
Recent violence was reported in Panchla Bazaar space within the district on Saturday as protesters clashed with the police and several other homes had been set on fireplace. Agitators pelted policemen with stones, injuring a few of them, and in addition vandalised a BJP get together workplace.
