Defence Research Body Scientist Arrested For Providing Secret Info To Pak

Pune:

A scientist working for the Defence Analysis and Improvement Organisation (DRDO) right here has been arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for offering confidential info to a Pakistani agent, officers mentioned on Thursday.

The scientist was allegedly in contact with an agent of a “Pakistan Intelligence Operative” by means of WhatsApp and video calls, an ATS official mentioned.

It was a case of honeytrap, he added.

The accused, who held a senior place within the premier defence analysis institute, was arrested on Wednesday.

“The scientist, by misusing his place, regardless of figuring out that the officers secrets and techniques in his possession if obtained by the enemy nation can pose a menace to the safety of the nation, supplied the small print to the enemy nation,” an ATS launch mentioned.

An offense underneath related sections of the Official Secrets and techniques Act has been registered with Kalachowki unit of the ATS in Mumbai and additional probe is on, it added.
