Actor Karla Sofia Gascon, identified for her function within the Oscar-nominated movie Emilia Perez, has deactivated her X account (previously Twitter) after her controversial posts from 2020 and 2021 resurfaced on social media, sparking backlash.
Karla’s X account was deactivated by Friday morning, in response to Selection.
The actress confronted intense criticism after customers on X uncovered tweets during which she expressed controversial views on Muslims, George Floyd, and variety on the Oscars.
In response to the backlash, Gascon issued an apology in a press release to Selection, saying, “I need to acknowledge the dialog round my previous social media posts which have prompted harm. As somebody in a marginalized neighborhood, I do know this struggling all too properly and I’m deeply sorry to these I’ve prompted ache. All my life I’ve fought for a greater world. I imagine mild will at all times conquer darkness.”
Among the many tweets that resurfaced, Gascon criticised the range of the 2021 Oscars ceremony. “Increasingly more the #Oscars are trying like a ceremony for unbiased and protest movies. I did not know if I used to be watching an Afro-Korean competition, a Black Lives Matter demonstration, or the 8M. Aside from that, an unsightly, ugly gala,” she wrote on X.
Moreover, she made derogatory remarks about George Floyd, calling him a “drug addict swindler” after his loss of life by the hands of a police officer in 2020, which sparked protests throughout the USA.
