Athens, Greece:

A firefighting plane crashed in Greece on Sunday, however there have been no casualties, the hearth brigade informed AFP.

The Pezetel plane crashed whereas tackling a blaze on the Ionian island of Zakynthos, in Western Greece. The pilot is protected and sound and was helped by different firefighters, the ANA information company reported.

Firefighters and determined locals Sunday battled raging wildfires on the Greek island of Evia which have charred huge areas of pine forest and compelled tons of of individuals to flee their houses.

“We now have forward of us one other tough night, one other tough evening,” civil safety deputy minister Nikos Hardalias mentioned. 

“On Evia we’ve got two main hearth fronts, one within the north and one within the south,” Hardalias mentioned, including that sturdy winds have been pushing the northern hearth entrance in direction of seashore villages.

Greece and Turkey have been battling devastating fires for almost two weeks because the area suffered its worst heatwave in a long time, which consultants have linked to local weather change.

To this point, the fires have killed two folks in Greece and eight in neighbouring Turkey, with dozens extra hospitalised.

Whereas rain introduced some respite from the blazes in Turkey over the weekend, Greece continues to endure hovering temperatures.

In all, 17 firefighting plane — planes and helicopters — have been combating the fires on Evia, Greece’s second largest island, Hardalias mentioned.
