The focus of this debate is on the environmental impact assessment draft, which was introduced by the Centre on March 23rd. The draft, which was published in Hindi and English, has received flak from environmentalists and citizens alike. This proposed environmental law has been deemed regressive and out of vision.
The Karnataka High Court has also objected to Centre’s decision to publish the document only in Hindi and English. Meanwhile, the advocate representing the Centre said the government was not obliged to publish the EIA draft in regional languages. The court’s next hearing on the case is now on September 7th.
