A 29-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly strangling his newly-wed spouse to demise after a battle over dowry in south Delhi’s Maidangarhi space, police mentioned.

The accused, Kuldeep Singh Rana, works as an assistant to a contractor, they mentioned.

On Wednesday, Rana and his spouse (25) returned to Delhi from the lady’s parental home at Golapar in Uttarakhand. Later, Rana beat his spouse after consuming alcohol resulting in her demise, police mentioned.

The couple bought married on 26 April this 12 months, police mentioned, including the lady’s physique was discovered mendacity on the mattress in her bed room Thursday morning.

Some bluish marks have been discovered close to the neck and face of the lady and prima facie, it seems that she was strangled to demise, a senior police officer mentioned.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur mentioned, “A case of homicide has been registered and the accused husband has been arrested within the case.”

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that on Wednesday, the accused beat his spouse after consuming alcohol. They allegedly had a battle over dowry-related calls for. Although the accused had acquired the dowry, he needed the land and property to be registered in his identify,” he mentioned.
