Menstruating Dalit Student Made To Take Exams Outside Class In Tamil Nadu

A Class 8 pupil of a personal faculty in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore was pressured to take her exams exterior the classroom, apparently as a result of she was menstruating. A video of the woman – who occurs to be a Dalit — sitting on the steps of the classroom was broadly circulated, drawing motion from the authorities. A 1.22-minute video, which NDTV couldn’t independently confirm, reveals the woman seated on the steps, writing her examination. Her printed reply sheet bears the bears the title of the varsity — “Swamy Chidbhavananda Matric Greater Secondary Faculty, at Senguttaipalayam”.

Within the video, the woman is heard speaking to a lady, believed to be her mom. “The principal requested me to take a seat right here and write the examination,” she stated. She added that this was not a primary. Earlier, she was made to take an examination from one other remoted spot.  

“Will not they allow you to take the examination inside the category in case you attained puberty?” the mom is heard questioning. It stays unclear whether or not the woman had simply began menstruating that day or earlier. 

The college has claimed that the woman’s mom wished the woman to be made to take a seat exterior throughout examination.

The video has sparked outrage, prompting an official inquiry by the Tamil Nadu Faculty Schooling Division.  

The Faculty Schooling Division has sought a proof from the administration. 

“The Director of Non-public Faculty Schooling, Dr M Palanisami, is conducting an inquiry. If any wrongdoing is discovered, strict motion will probably be taken,” an official instructed NDTV.

Faculty schooling minister has assured that there will probably be zero tolerance for any sort of oppression towards kids.
