“Mother Teresa’s Charity Itself Sent Request”: Centre On Frozen Accounts

The federal government didn’t freeze financial institution accounts operated by Mom Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, the Dwelling Ministry stated Monday night, claiming that the Kolkata-based organisation had itself written to the State Financial institution of India asking for its accounts to be suspended.

The ministry stated that on December 25 it refused to resume the organisation’s FCRA, or Overseas Contribution Regulation Act, licence after being made conscious of “adversarial inputs”.

“In consideration of those inputs on document, the renewal software of Missionaries of Charity was not accepted. The FCRA registration of Missionaries of Charity was legitimate as much as December 31, 2021,” an announcement from the ministry stated.

“MHA didn’t freeze any accounts of Missionaries of Charity. State Financial institution of India has knowledgeable that Missionaries of Charity itself despatched a request to SBI to freeze its accounts,” the assertion clarified.

Officers on the Missionaries of Charity have refused to remark.

Father Dominic Gomes, the Vicar Common of the Archdiocese of Calcutta, additionally hit out at what he stated was a “dastardly assault on the Christian neighborhood”.
