Senior Congress chief P Chidambaram on Wednesday stated Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is “incorrect” in claiming that GST dues of states have been cleared and cited the instance of Congress-ruled Rajasthan, Punjab and Chhattisgarh.
Citing an interview given by Ms Sitharaman, he stated the finance minister “angrily rebuffed the interviewer and snapped: ”What dues, I’ve cleared the GST (Items and Companies Tax) dues of all states””.
“The FM was incorrect. The anger was unjustified,” the previous Union finance minister stated in a press release.
P Chidambaram stated he has gathered information about GST dues from three states which stand at Rs 7,393 crore for Punjab as on June 1, 2021, Rs. 7,142 crore for Rajasthan as on Might 21 and Rs 3,069 crore for Chhattisgarh as on June 1.
“I’m attempting to assemble information from different states,” he stated.
Opposition-ruled states have been at loggerheads with the Centre over GST dues up to now additionally and have demanded that they be paid on the earliest in order that they will maintain funding pandemic-related spending.
