“Publicity Interest Litigation”: Supreme Court Slams Frivolous Pleas Trend


The Supreme Courtroom at present rejected a petition in opposition to development across the Jagannath temple.

New Delhi:

Rejecting a petition in opposition to development actions across the Puri Jagannath temple, the Supreme Courtroom at present tore into frivolous petitions or what it known as “Publicity Curiosity Litigation”.

A petition had challenged an Orissa Excessive Courtroom order permitting the Archeological Survey of India to evaluate any harm attributable to development across the temple. The Excessive Courtroom ought to have stopped additional development for the evaluation, the petition stated, arguing that such actions have been inflicting cracks within the temple’s basis.

The state authorities is constructing a temple heritage hall.

Such petitions have been a “waste of time” and needed to be nipped within the bud, Justices BR Gavai and Hima Kohli stated.

“Can a state be stopped from making crucial preparations for fundamental services to devotees? The reply is an emphatic no,” the judges stated.
