Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s nephew, Bhupendra Singh Honey, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in an unlawful sand-mining case. The probe company took Honey into custody yesterday night and can produce him in a CBI courtroom as we speak.
They mentioned Honey was arrested below the provisions of the Prevention of Cash Laundering Act (PMLA) late at night time.
Final month, ED had seized Rs 8 crore throughout a raid at premises belonging to Honey. The raids have been made in reference to the unlawful sand-mining operations in Punjab.
In an announcement, the Enforcement Directorate had mentioned “incriminating” paperwork associated to the “unlawful” sand mining and property transactions, cell phones, gold value greater than Rs 21 lakh, and a Rolex watch value Rs 12 lakh have been additionally seized through the searches.
The arrest comes simply days forward of polling for the 117-member Punjab legislative meeting. Voting shall be held on February 20, whereas the outcomes shall be out on March 10.
