An assistant storekeeper on the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple has been apprehended for allegedly stealing 25 litres of milk.
The accused, Sunil Kumar, was caught by the temple vigilance staff following suspicion of huge portions of milk being repeatedly smuggled from the temple. Official sources acknowledged the worker was caught red-handed on the premise of CCTV footage.
This incident comes within the wake of the mysterious disappearance of a gold rod weighing almost 13 sovereigns final month. The employees, which went lacking from a robust room throughout renovation works below means on the temple, was later discovered hid in sand close by. The rod, an alloy of gold and cadmium alloy, was used for gold plating work on the door of the sanctum sanctorum.
As a part of the continued investigation into the suspected gold theft, the Fort Police approached the court docket looking for permission to conduct polygraph checks on 5 temple staff and three staff concerned within the gold plating work. The questioning apparently yielded contradictory statements.
The truth that it was found buried in sand close to a comparatively remoted space and that the CCTV cameras within the neighborhood have been non-functional has led to elevated scrutiny. The police have questioned over 60 individuals in reference to the case, together with temple employees, goldsmiths and police personnel assigned to temple safety.
