Cabin Thunder Top, is constructed on the periphery of the barren treeless moorland of Hardangervidda National Park – about 1000 meters above sea stage, surrounded by weather-beaten dwarf birches and heathers. As every part put right here from the skin, it’s slowly appropriated by nature. The cabin is an inhabitable beacon, a man-made peak within the rolling fells of Hardangervidda, worn down by glaciers throughout the ice age.
The 30 steps from the bottom to the highest of the construction brings you to a panoramic view of the lake in a single path, and the plains of Hardangervidda within the different. Visits by wild reindeer herds and grazing sheep are frequent. The facade is clad with untreated ore-pine, generally used within the medieval stave church buildings that are nonetheless standing after 900 years. The altitude of the positioning additionally allowed the window frames to be produced in untreated heartwood, leaving it virtually maintenance-free. As the cabin is roofed in snow throughout the winter season its roof is the right place to construct a ski soar, within the spirit of Sondre Norheim, generally known as the daddy of contemporary snowboarding and for ski leaping from his personal roof.

Its form creates turbulence stopping snow from piling up on the south-facing terrace, leaving it prepared for the normal Easter household gatherings when the temperatures rise and the Norwegians lastly can really feel the heat of the solar after the lengthy winter.
The Thunder Top is constructed as an extension to a standard Norwegian log cabin, with low ceiling peak and small home windows with muntins. The extension is 17 meters lengthy, 3.5 meters large and 6 meters tall. It is connected to the log cabin by means of a glass hallway containing a wardrobe and a utility sink, with direct entry to the skin. Inspired by the normal open-hearth cottages,
Thunder Top is principally one huge room, with double ceiling peak. Everything is rapidly heated by the small wooden range. With a lot of small nooks to cover away, the cabin is each functioning as the massive household room and a spot to search out a while for your self together with your favorite e book. It’s the household ateliér, workshop, or weekend workplace. A spot to color, write, learn, or simply being impressed by the views.
