President Trump stated Tuesday that Israel has agreed to a proposal for a two-month ceasefire in its conflict with Hamas.
“Israel has agreed to the mandatory circumstances to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, throughout which era we are going to work with all events to finish the Struggle,” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I hope, for the nice of the Center East, that Hamas takes this Deal, as a result of it is not going to get higher — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”
Mr. Trump didn’t give any particulars on the proposed deal, and it is unclear whether or not Hamas will settle for it. Neither Israel nor Hamas has commented publicly on the phrases of a attainable settlement.
The president stated Qatar and Egypt — who’ve beforehand helped mediate talks with Hamas — “will ship this remaining proposal.”
On Friday, Mr. Trump said he believed a deal between Israel and Hamas was attainable “inside the subsequent week.”
Prior pushes for a ceasefire have stalled. In late Might, Mr. Trump’s Center East envoy Steve Witkoff proposed a 60-day ceasefire that will have required Hamas to launch 10 dwelling hostages taken from Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, in addition to the stays of one other 18 useless hostages. In change, Israel would have launched 125 “life sentence” prisoners, 1,111 Palestinian detainees and 180 deceased Palestinians.
Israel supported that proposal, however Hamas stated it responded with “notes and amendments.” Witkoff known as Hamas’ response “completely unacceptable.”
