The United Nations headquarters in New York was cordoned off on Thursday throughout a police stand-off with a lone man apparently holding a gun outdoors the venue, officers mentioned.

“The UN headquarters is closed, there may be police exercise,” a UN spokesman instructed AFP.

Pictures confirmed armed police surrounding the person standing on a sidewalk whereas holding what seemed to be a gun.

Based on an official talking on situation of anonymity, the person threatened to kill himself in entrance of one of many constructing’s entrances.

The avenue alongside the UN headquarters was closed to visitors, however conferences inside weren’t instantly affected.

“Resulting from a police investigation, keep away from the realm of 42 Avenue and 1st Avenue. Anticipate emergency autos within the surrounding space,” the New York police division mentioned on Twitter.
