America on Monday introduced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, citing human rights abuses, in a transfer that won’t cease US athletes from competing.
“The Biden administration won’t ship any diplomatic or official illustration to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Video games given the PRC’s (Folks’s Republic of China) ongoing genocide and crimes towards humanity in Xinjiang and different human rights abuses,” White Home Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated.
“The athletes on Staff USA have our full help. We will probably be behind them 100% as we cheer them on from house.”
The Worldwide Olympic Committee stated on Monday it revered the US authorities’s announcement of a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
“The presence of presidency officers and diplomats is a purely political resolution for every authorities, which the IOC in its political neutrality totally respects,” an IOC spokesperson advised AFP.
For months, the US authorities has been looking for one of the simplest ways to place itself with regard to the Winter Video games, hosted from February 4-20, 2022 by a rustic it accuses of perpetrating “genocide” towards Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang, northwest China.

Talking at a daily press briefing on Monday, he warned the US ought to cease “hyping” the boycott.
“If the US is bent on having its personal method, China will take resolute countermeasures,” Zhao stated.
There was no quick response to Psaki’s assertion from Beijing.
