The Centre has warned residents towards utilizing cellphone charging portals at public locations corresponding to airports, cafes, accommodations, and bus stands.
It has requested individuals to be cautious of the “USB charger rip-off”.
Here is what it is advisable to know:
The risk: Cyber criminals exploit USB charging ports in public locations like airports, cafes, accommodations, and bus stands for malicious functions.
Juice-jacking: Charging units at contaminated USB stations could make customers vulnerable to juice-jacking cyber assaults. Juice jacking is a cyber assault technique whereby cyber criminals use public USB charging stations to steal person knowledge or set up malware on the units which can be linked to them.
When unsuspecting customers plug their units into such compromised charging ports, cyber-criminals can siphon off knowledge or set up malware onto the linked gadget. This may occasionally end in theft of non-public info, set up of malware or ransomware, and even gadget encryption with ransom calls for.

The best way to keep protected
- Choose electrical wall shops or carry private cables or energy banks.
- Safe or lock your gadget and keep away from pairing with unknown units.
- Think about charging your cellphone when it’s turned off.
