An ingenious strategy to smuggle gold on a Dubai-Delhi flight failed when officers carried out an inspection of the aircraft on arrival at Delhi airport.
The officers, tipped concerning the smuggling, have been on the airport when the aircraft landed and the suspect was taken into custody.
Upon looking out the aircraft, they recovered one ‘U’ formed construction of gold, wrapped in silver color tape and glued within the rod beneath the seat of the one passenger.
“The mentioned gold weighing 1000 grams is valued at Rs. 48,90,270. The mentioned gold recovered beneath the seat was admitted to be purchased by the passenger and seized underneath Part 110 of the Customs Act, 1962,” mentioned officers.
