The West Bengal meeting on Wednesday handed a invoice to permit ladies to work in bars.
The West Bengal Finance Invoice, 2025, was tabled by MoS Chandrima Bhattacharya within the meeting.
It seeks to amend the Bengal Excise Act, 1909, “to take away the prohibition on employment of girl in ON class liquor outlets as such provision is discriminatory”, amongst others.
Whereas ‘Of’ outlets are retailers that promote liquor, at ‘On’ outlets, consumption of liquor is allowed on the premises.
Concluding the discussions on the Invoice, Bhattacharya stated the state authorities doesn’t imagine in discrimination between women and men.
Amongst different provisions within the Invoice, it empowers the state authorities to observe the availability of assorted uncooked supplies, together with jaggery, to forestall unlawful liquor brewing, she stated.
The Invoice will even amend the Bengal Agricultural Earnings-tax Act, 1944, to offer tax reduction to the tea business, particularly smaller tea gardens which were going through hardship because the pandemic.
“There is no such thing as a monetary implication concerned in giving impact to the provisions of the Invoice,” it stated.
