A set of Central guidelines to control digital content material that includes a code of ethics and a three-tier grievance redressal framework come into impact in two days with none of the social media giants — Twitter, Fb and Instagram — complying to any of it, authorities sources stated. The principles for information websites and OTT platforms have been introduced in February and so they got three months to conform.
The principles embrace appointment of compliance officers, giving their title and make contact with handle in India, grievance decision, monitoring of objectionable content material, compliance report and elimination of objectionable content material.
The federal government stated its intention was to ascertain what it known as a “mushy contact progressive institutional mechanism with a level-playing subject”.
On February 25, the Electronics & Info Know-how ministry gave a three-month deadline to social media platforms to adjust to the brand new guidelines. The three-month window ends on Could 25, 2021. Thus far, no firm apart from one has appointed any such officers, sources stated.
