Zomato Employees Burn Company T-Shirts to Protest Chinese Investment


A gaggle of Zomato meals supply platform staff in Kolkata tore and burnt their official T-shirts to protest Chinese funding within the agency. The agitation comes within the backdrop of the killing of 20 Indian troopers in a conflict with Chinese troops in jap Ladakh’s Galwan Valley on June 15.

During the protest at Behala within the southwestern a part of the town on Saturday, some agitators claimed they’ve stop their jobs as Zomato has a sizeable Chinese funding and urged individuals to cease ordering meals by way of the corporate.

In 2018, Ant Financial, part of Chinese main Alibaba, had invested $210 million in Zomato for a 14.7 % stake. The meals supply main not too long ago raised an additional $150 million from Ant Financial.

“Chinese companies are making profits from here and attacking the Army of our country. They are trying to grab our land. This cannot be allowed,” one of many protesters stated.

Another protester stated they had been able to starve however wouldn’t work for firms which have funding from China.

In May, Zomato laid off 520 staff or 13 per cent of its workforce in an enormous retrenchment train as a result of novel coronavirus pandemic.
