The 80-km-long highway will make journey shorter for Kailash Mansarovar (File)

Nepal has raised objections over India inaugurating a strategic hyperlink highway connecting Lipulekh go at a peak of 17,000 toes alongside the border with China in Uttarakhand with Dharchula. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry in a press release on its web site stated, “This unilateral act runs against the understanding reached between the two countries including at the level of the Prime Ministers that a solution to boundary issues would be sought through negotiation.”
India’s Foreign Ministry, replying to Nepal’s assertion on Saturday, stated the road that was opened for use by pilgrims of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra lies nicely inside Indian territory.
“The recently inaugurated road section in Pithoragarh district in the state of Uttarakhand lies completely within the territory of India. The road follows the pre-existing route used by the pilgrims of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Under the present project, the same road has been made pliable for the ease and convenience of pilgrims, locals and traders,” the Foreign Ministry stated in a press release.
“India and Nepal have established mechanism to deal with all boundary matters. The boundary delineation exercise with Nepal is ongoing. India is committed to resolving outstanding boundary issues through diplomatic dialogue and in the spirit of our close and friendly bilateral relations with Nepal,” the ministry stated.
The 80-km-long highway inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday is predicted to assist pilgrims visiting Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet.
After inaugurating the highway through video conferencing, Mr Singh stated pilgrims will now be capable of full their journey in a single week as a substitute of as much as three weeks. The highway originates at Ghatiabagarh and ends at Lipulekh go, the gateway to Kailash-Mansarovar.
The Kailash-Mansarovar yatra includes trekking at excessive altitudes of as much as 19,500 toes, underneath inhospitable situations, together with excessive climate and rugged terrain.
Lipulekh go is a far western level close to Kalapani, a disputed border space between Nepal and India. Both India and Nepal declare Kalapani as an integral a part of their territory – India as a part of Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district and Nepal as a part of Darchula district.
