Islamabad:
Controversial Pakistani cleric Mufti Abdul Qavi has been criticised for his current feedback claiming that drinks having lower than 40 per cent of alcohol are “halal”. Qavi made the feedback in an interview with a web based portal when he was requested to reply to some fatwa allegedly issued by clerics in Saudi Arabia that drinks containing 40 per cent alcohol or much less are halal (permissible). ‘I feel the drinks with lower than 40 per cent alcohol are halal’ Halal means you may drink it, he mentioned.
He went on to say that in his view, alcohol derived from minerals, corresponding to spirits, petrochemicals and different substances, should be halal. I’d say that alcohol derived from minerals, corresponding to spirits, petrol and different substances, is 100 per cent halal, he mentioned. The cleric mentioned that some members of the clergy in Pakistan typically use paan (betel leaf) containing tobacco, which they take into account as halal.
If a paan containing tobacco is consumed by our clerics is halal, then let me say that fashionable drinks are additionally halal, he mentioned. According to a report in Pakistan Today, Mufti Naeem, chief of Karachi’s Jamia Binoria seminary, disagreed with Qavi’s perspective and mentioned that his feedback about alcohol are mistaken and in contradiction to each different sect’s beliefs. Even a single drop of alcohol will render impure a whole pot full of unpolluted water, and all of the ulema have unanimous view on this, he mentioned.
