DNA From Chewing Gum Leads To Arrest Of 60-Year-Old In 1980 Murder Case

A person within the US state of Oregon has been discovered responsible within the 1980 unsolved homicide of a faculty scholar after DNA present in chewing gum linked him to the case.

As per a statement by Multnomah County District Attorney, 19-year-old Barbara Tucker on January 15, 1980, was “kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and crushed to dying close to a campus car parking zone by Robert Plympton.”

She was a scholar at Mt. Hood Neighborhood Faculty. The subsequent morning, Ms Barbara’s physique was found by the scholars arriving for the category on the faculty.

Based on a report by CNN, the 60-year-old was discovered responsible final week on one rely of first-degree homicide and 4 counts of second-degree homicide.

Later when the detectives conducting surveillance noticed Mr Robert spitting a chewing gum, they collected it and submitted it to the OSP Crime Lab.

The assertion mentioned, “In 2021, a genealogist with Parabon Nanolabs recognized Robert Plympton as a probable contributor to the unknown DNA profile developed in 2000. Detectives with the Gresham Police Division discovered Plympton dwelling in Troutdale and started conducting surveillance. After they noticed Plympton spit a bit of chewing gum onto the bottom, detectives collected the gum and submitted it to the OSP Crime Lab.”

The assertion continued, “The lab decided the DNA profile developed from the chewing gum matched the DNA profile developed from Ms. Tucker’s vaginal swabs. On June 8, 2021, Plympton was taken into custody and lodged on the Multnomah County Detention Heart.”
