London Museum to pay tribute to supermodel Naomi Campbell’s glorious career through an exhibition

London, Mar 14 (AP) After 4 many years in vogue, the queen of the catwalk is getting her personal exhibition. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is launching “NAOMI: In Vogue”, a celebration of Naomi Campbell‘s enduring profession. The exhibition, which opens in June, will showcase memorable designer outfits worn by Campbell, probably the most recognisable fashions and Black ladies on the earth.

“I am honoured to be requested by the V&A to share my life in garments with the world,” Campbell, 53, stated in a press release.

Sonnet Stanfill, a vogue curator on the museum, known as Campbell “probably the most prolific and influential figures in modern tradition.”

The exhibition will embrace some 100 seems to be and equipment from the largest names in vogue, from Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana to Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and plenty of others.

Highlights embrace a 1989 Thierry Mugler car-inspired corset created from plastic and steel, a bubble-gum pink Valentino robe and feather cape Campbell wore on the 2019 Met Gala and staggeringly excessive Vivienne Westwood platform footwear worn by Campbell throughout her well-known 1993 catwalk fall.

The London-born Campbell attended stage faculty from a younger age and began her profession at eight, when she started performing in music movies for Bob Marley and Tradition Membership. The aspiring dancer was approached by a mannequin agent when she was 15, and inside two years she was strutting down catwalks in Paris and Milan. She was the primary Black mannequin to look on the duvet of Vogue France in 1988. A part of the exhibition focuses on Campbell’s private {and professional} relationship with the late Tunisian-born designer Azzedine Alaia, who opened his Parisian residence and studio to a younger Campbell. She impressed his work, whereas he helped advance her profession.

Curators stated that the present will acknowledge Campbell’s advocacy for fairness within the fashion industry and assist for rising inventive skills.
